By May 17th, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” had grossed $372 million in North America, making it the 8th most grossed film ever. Even though some people say that they liked the first movie better, this new Avengers sequel captures not only action, disaster, and emotions, but Marvel fans’ hearts as well.

On May first, writer, producer, and director Joss Whedon brought Marvel fans another installment for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with the newest action-packed film, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.” This PG-13 sequel delves into characters’ pasts, introduces new heroes, and features them saving (and destroying) various places when fighting the artificially intelligent robot, Ultron.

The movie’s plot gets set into motion when Tony Stark and Bruce Banner discover an artificial intelligence while on a mission and accidentally ‘jump start’ the dormant peacekeeping program labeled ‘Ultron.’ None the less, things go terribly wrong when Ultron becomes bent on exterminating the human race and the earth has to call upon the help of ‘The Avengers.’ The team faces the ultimate test when battling Ultron’s many minions, and ultimately Ultron himself, as well as meeting two new powerful and mysterious enemies along the way.

Although a little fast paced at times and a little slow at others, the movie completed telling the story with a relatively easy to understand plot and even some comical moments.

The ending left an opening for yet more Marvel movies with some new characters joining some of the classic Avenger favorites. The new and old characters helped the plot develop in various ways either with romance, fighting skills, or simple humor.

Each character had their own part to play in the final battle, whether a heroic death or an incredible finishing move, and the devotion displayed by each cast member as they portrayed their character helped enhance the overall performance.

Many big name actors and actresses appear in this multi-million dollar film. These names include Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain Steve Rogers/Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and James Spader as the persona of Ultron.

These actors utilized their incredible talents, combined with stunning visual settings and effects, to really bring this movie together. Also, the other computer generated effects helped bring the enemies to life and enhanced the sets and the character’s features. However, the sound effects became somewhat distracting and made the dialogue hard to hear at points. None the less, the terrific acting and advanced special effects contained in this movie helped demonstrate the directorial excellence of Whedon.

However, certain concepts and fight scenes became a little confusing throughout this movie due to so many things happening at one time. Also, even though it’s a huge part of the Marvel franchise, “Age of Ultron” doesn’t quite compare to the standards of the first “Avengers;” but it was still a good movie.

The story doesn’t end here however.  More movies containing Avenger characters have made their way into production, such as “Captain America: Civil War” scheduled for release in 2016.

Although the wait for the next Marvel hero movie may seem long, it does give fans the chance to rewatch the previous movies to keep the Avenger universe fresh in their minds.
