On March 13, Disney released a new, live action, version on the Disney classic “Cinderella.”  Can the makers of this film improve this 1950s cartoon into a new movie everyone wants to see?

The story takes place in a small town, where a girl named Ella and her parents live. Ella’s mother and father die unexpectedly from being ill. Ella is now stuck living with her stepmother, Lady Truman, and her two daughters, Drizella and Anastasia.

Lady Truman and her daughters find out that there will be a ball at Prince Kit’s palace, and the girls are dying to win the heart of the prince. Of course, Cinderella would not be allowed to attend the ball, because her wicked stepmother would not want her to ruin her daughter’s chances with the prince. Luckily, Cinderella’s fairy godmother gives her everything she needs to make her night magical.

In the movie, the directors captured every detail possible. This movie gives a great message to little girls everywhere with the line, “have courage, and be kind.” Not only does this movie have a good message for younger girls, but it gives families the message to cherish their loved one’s.

Along with casting roles, 25-year-old Lily James captures the role of Cinderella perfectly. Not only does James have the ideal look of a Disney princess, but her attitude in the movie makes it even more realistic.

Not to mention that Cate Blanchett, known as Lady Truman, Cinderella’s stepmother, has the ideal look and personality for the villain in this movie.

In the role of the dashing prince, Richard Madden, played the part very well. Looking very much like a prince viewers would picture today, the directors picked the right person for this role.

In addition, every costume fit each character absolutely perfectly. The dress Cinderella wore at the ball definitely brought the 1950’s cartoon version of Cinderella to life.

Even though the film was very enjoyable, it did have some flaws. Most Disney movies are filled with songs and music, but not once did anyone actually sing.

Also, in the movie, the directors added some parts that didn’t exactly fit the plot. For example, in one part of the movie, the evil stepmother made a deal with the Grand Duke, played by Stellan Skarsgard, telling him that if he would keep Cinderella’s identity a secret, the prince could marry a real princess which everyone wanted him to do. In my opinion, I think this throws the original story off. But, understanding that this film had different directors, I knew that there were going to be some changes.

Overall, the new movie Cinderella gave a great outlook to young girls and was enjoyable for the whole family. I absolutely recommend this movie to everyone, and it’s worth the money viewers pay for.
